Spot report – Yugyo-ji Temple (2019-08-07)

Webmaster visited Yugyo-ji Temple in Kanagawa Pref. last week. Yugyo-ji Temple is the headquarters of Jishu sect. The temple has the long history since 1325, although the original buildings are not left.

 

Access: Tokyo (local train 0:44) Fujisawa (walk 0:15) @

 

It needs to walk for 15 minutes from Fujisawa Station. Once passing through the Somon Gate, visitors walk the approach under trees.

   

 

Then, the main hall can be seen at the back of the precincts. It was built in 1937.

There are many sculptures of guardian animals under eaves, such as elephants, lions and dragons.

   

 

Inside the main hall. It’s huge and the alter is set at the back. Although it was very hot day, fresh wind was passing through the hall. Webmaster spent for a while here for resting.

 

 

The alter is beautifully decorated. Webmaster prayed for the health and safety of the family members.

 

 

The statue of the Master Ippen in front of the main hall, who lived in 13th century and is the founder of Jishu sect.

Chijakumon Gate, the oldest construction built in 1859, and Obankata entrance hall which is the main entrance to the temple buildings for ceremony.
