Spot report – Yoshimi-hyakuana (2024-03-17)

Webmaster visited Yoshimi-hyakuana meaning hundred caves of Yoshimi. These caves are collective tombs in the late 6th to 7th Century designated as Nationally Designated Historical Site.

This is the entrance to the caves. We need to pay for \300 yen to enter.

 

Then, you can walk among the ancient cemetery. The caves were investigated since 1887, and 219 caves are confirmed today.

 

Some of the caves are open to the visitors. You can enter into it. The floor level on the left side in this cave is made higher, where the body was kept and enshrined.

After less than 10-minute walk on the slope, I arrived on top of the hill. This is the view from there. The tree line shown on the photo is that of cherry trees. It must be very beautiful in blooming but it was still early for it.

 

But, I found the blossoms of Japanese apricot and Kawazu cherry, which is an early blooming variety, on the side of the parking lots.
