Webmaster visited Sengan-en Japanese Garden in Kagoshima this month, which is designated as Place of Scenic Beauty. It was a private garden of lord Shimazu in those days.

For moving in Kagoshima City, one-day pass is very useful, which costs for 600 yen. I bought it and took public bus from Kagoshima-chuo Station to Sengan-en Garden.
Sengan-en is a stroll-type landscape garden.
Here is one of the best viewpoints of the garden where Sakurajima Volcano can be seen. It was not very clear day, but can you identify volcanic smoke on the right side of the ridge?
The former palace of Lord Shimazu in the garden is also open for visitors.

There is an inner garden which is also beautiful.
Some figures, palanquin, hart, and rickshaw, formed from live chrysanthemum flowers were exhibited in a part of the garden.
There is a gallery and shop of Satsuma cut glass. It was very beautiful but a little bit expensive for me…
And the other souvenir shops
There is a tea house in the garden which offers Japanese tea and sweets.
I tried the tasting set of Japanese tea of five types with five kinds of side dish. Each tea had a different taste and flavor. At first, I thought finishing five glasses of tea would be rather tough, but I could enjoy them all.
