This bridge is 897m long and listed in Guinness Book of Record as the longest pedestrian wooded bridge. Only pedestrians and bicycles are allowed to cross.
The monument on Guinness Record
The bridge was firstly constructed in 1879 by the investment of pioneer villagers who had started to develop tea plantations on the opposite shore of Oi-gawa River.
Since then, the bridge has been maintained by those people as a pay bridge. You need to pay ¥100 for crossing the bridge at the toll house at the foot of the bridge.
Then, let’s go! Wow, very long!
Unlike Kunowaki Bridge reported in the previous Spot report, this bridge has enough width of 2.7m. But, be careful because the parapets are low enough.
The wide river views
It says doman’naka meaning ”just the middle”
However, the other side is still far…
Finally, Webmaster reached the other end.
The bridge seen from the other bank
Japanese Kerria (Yamabuki, Kerria japonica) found on the bank.
